The 2020 Team Alpecin bike: Canyon Endurace CF SLX Disc Di2

The new marathon road bike of Team Alpecin is technically and visually a real highlight. In the 2020 season, the members of the amateur team will ride a blue Canyon Endurace CF SLX 9.0 Disc Di2 with Shimano’s top groupset and integrated power meter.

If you think a comfortable road bike cannot be sporty, you should try out Canyons Endurace. Because the road racing machine of Team Alpecin is an agile, fast and dynamic road bike, with which you can ride comfortably for many hours.

It is therefore ideal for cycling marathons, Gran Fondos and longer races – even on not so smooth surfaces such as the gravel roads of Tuscany, the cobblestone sections of Flanders or the rough asphalt of French mountain roads.

The bike is agile, sporty, fast. This is not only ensured by the “relaxed, yet sporty” geometry, but also by the low weight of the frame (820 grams in size M) and the excellent choice of components – above all the aero cockpit H31.

The integrated handlebar-stem unit with an aerodynamically favourable frontal area allows for responsive handling due to the shape and angle, as well as for a relaxed hand position when riding uphill.

Canyon Endurace CF SLX seduces with comfort & agility

Another ergonomic and at the same time optical highlight is without doubt the seat post. Just like the cockpit, the S15 VCLS 2.0 CF seat post was developed by Canyon in-house. The leaf spring construction was specially designed to effectively dampen shocks and bumps and thus offers additional comfort.

The geometry of the frame in combination with the cockpit and seat post allows for relaxed and comfortable riding – hour after hour. The rider does not fatigue as quickly and can therefore longer invest his or her energy in propulsion without loss.

Speaking of energy i.e. power – in order to measure it, a power meter is integrated into Shimano’s Dura-Ace crank (52/36). This makes it possible to measure and visualize power immediately and enables the athlete to train in a targeted way based on figures.

“The amateur riders’ bike is in no way inferior to a professional road racing rocket. High-end components are specced and installed just as they are with the bikes of the professional teams we support, Movistar, Arkea Samsic and Alpecin-Fenix,” says Andreas Walzer, Pro Sport Manager Road at Canyon’s.

“We deliberately chose the Endurace CF SLX frame because it is the first choice for amateur athletes who spend many hours on the saddle in training, on tours and in events. For this purpose, the light and well damping carbon frame with its sporty, yet comfortable geometry is just right”, Walzer reckons.

This opinion is also shared by the specialist media. In the current issue of “Rennrad” magazine (6/2020), the bike was chosen “buy recommendation” among 26 models. “The Endurace combines race characteristics and riding comfort. Cycle marathon tip”, the magazine concludes. Tone-in-tone, the blue paintwork matches the specially designed Assos cycling wear of Team Alpecin.

“This shade of blue is exclusively reserved for Team Alpecin,” explains Walzer. The seatstays and the fork have small, but beautiful decals with the Team Alpecin logo on them.
