31.10.2024

The pros from Team Alpecin-Deceuninck have had an incredibly successful road season. While the wins in the Monuments and Grand Tour stages are the standout achievements, the Belgian team’s riders also clinched top spots in numerous other races.

Alpecin Cycling has put together a summary of their 2024 season accomplishments.

A Staggering 26 Wins on the Road

Team Alpecin-Deceuninck celebrated 26 wins in one-day races or stages this season. Axel Laurance kicked things off by winning the second stage of the Etoile de Bessèges on February 1. Stan Van Tricht wrapped up the season with a victory at the Italian autumn classic Coppa Bernocchi on October 7. Out of these 26 wins, 15 came from World Tour races. Top sprinter Jasper Philipsen led the pack with the most victories, securing nine wins.

Even though Team Alpecin-Deceuninck’s winning streak ended at the Giro d’Italia, marking the first time they didn’t win a stage since joining the Grand Tours, they still racked up five stage wins in the Grand Tours by the end of the season. Jasper Philipsen took the top spot three times at the Tour de France, while Kaden Groves snagged two stage wins at the Vuelta a España and also took home the green jersey for the points leader.

No team has a better record in the Monuments than Team Alpecin-Deceuninck: three out of five – an incredible feat. Jasper Philipsen sprinted to first place at Milan-Sanremo, while Mathieu van der Poel won the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix solo. On top of that, there were podium finishes with Jasper Philipsen taking second at Roubaix and Mathieu van der Poel finishing third at Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

By the way, Team Alpecin-Deceuninck was in the top ten at all five Monuments. In the last Monument of the season, the Tour of Lombardy, Xandro Meurisse put in an amazing performance and finished tenth.

Two Offroad World Titles

The Belgian squad also shined off-road. In February, Mathieu van der Poel dominated to win his sixth cyclocross world title. He wrapped up the season by claiming the rainbow jersey at the Gravel World Championships in Leuven.

More Highlights: Road World Championship Bronze & More

In some races, second place isn’t just the first loser. Podium finishes, especially in big races, are valuable too. Think of Mathieu van der Poel’s third place and the bronze medal at the end of the tough road world championship race in Zurich. Or Quinten Hermans’ third place at the Gravel World Championships.
