Mathieu van der Poels Canyon Aeroad CFR in World Champion Design
“New bike day” for Mathieu van der Poel at Liège-Bastogne-Liège 2024. The Alpecin-Deceuninck pro rode the fourth monument of the cycling year on a Canyon Aeroad CFR in a brand-new world champion design.
Styled with the world champion jersey’s rainbow stripes on a white base frame, the bike commemorates his 2023 World Championship title in Glasgow. The top tube features printed details such as the location, date, distance, elevation, time, and the length of his victorious solo ride at the World Championships.
Like all his bikes, the MVDP logo is displayed on the head tube. Also notable are the outward-facing brake-shift levers and a Canyon 3D-print mount.
The Canyon Aeroad is fully equipped with Shimano’s Dura-Ace Di2 groupset: this includes the electronic twelve-speed transmission with disc brakes and a Shimano power meter. Regarding chainrings, van der Poel prefers a 54/40-teeth combination. In most road races, van der Poel uses a twelve-speed cassette with an 11-28 range.
Compared to the standard model, the winner of the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix 2024 uses brake discs with a diameter of 140 millimeters instead of 160 millimeters.
A special feature of the Aeroad CFR is the width-adjustable Aerocockpit, which allows individual adjustment of the stem length. Van der Poel uses the CP15 model and sets it to a stem length of 130 millimeters and a handlebar width of 410 millimeters.
Van der Poel’s aero bike rolls on Shimano’s tubeless-ready wheels and Vittoria tires. For the classics, the Alpecin-Deceuninck pro uses the C50 model, characterized by 50 millimeter high carbon rims. These are fitted with Vittoria Corsa Pro Graphene tubeless tires, 28 millimeters wide.
