Mathieu van der Poel claimed victory at both Milan-Sanremo and the E3 Saxo Classic riding a white Canyon Aeroad CFR. All signs suggest the Alpecin-Deceuninck rider will also tackle the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix aboard the same bike. Van der Poel has enjoyed many of his road successes on the Aeroad and, along with his team, has complete confidence in the German manufacturer – underlined by the long-term ten-year deal he signed with Canyon last year.
A closer look: Van der Poel’s Canyon Aeroad CFR
The Canyon Aeroad CFR is built for speed, fine-tuned for optimal aerodynamics. Refined tube shapes help streamline airflow. A standout feature is the Aerocockpit Pro, which allows riders to adjust the handlebar width. Van der Poel rides the CP15 model, set to 410mm.
He opts for an aggressive riding position. His sharply angled 120mm stem and slightly inward-turned shifters reflect that. The crankset – part of Shimano’s Dura-Ace FC-9200P series – measures 172.5mm and carries a 54/40 tooth setup. Unlike the stock model, he chooses smaller 140mm brake rotors instead of the standard 160mm discs.
The bike features Shimano’s Dura-Ace Di2 9250 12-speed groupset. Electronic shifting ensures slick and accurate gear changes, while Dura-Ace 9270 hydraulic disc brakes offer full braking control. A Shimano FC-9200P power meter handles performance tracking. For most races, he rides an 11-28 cassette.
Rolling on Pirelli P Zero Race TLR RS tubeless tyres
His Aeroad CFR runs on tubeless-ready Shimano Dura-Ace C60 carbon wheels, featuring 60mm rims. This season, they’re paired with Pirelli P Zero Race TLR RS tyres, typically 28mm wide.
